The Remote Series: HCIM Has Gone Remote This Semester and What a Success It's Been! Part One

In the following series, we will share what HCIM has been up to these past few months from courses, to events, to research in the HCIM Remote Series.

It is fair to say that this spring semester has been a little different as we face unprecedented times together. Yet, online learning here within the HCIM program has been a huge success as students, faculty, and staff continue to knock it out of the park with engaging classes, meaningful projects, and groundbreaking research.

For Part One of the Remote Series, we will highlight HCIM's very own Monday Tech Talk Series!

A hallmark of the HCIM program is the Monday Tech Talk series where industry professionals share their knowledge on UX professional skills as well as current trends and topics. Despite having to transition online, our Tech Talk series remained strong with a great turn out!

While remote, this semester students had the chance to meet and learn from industry professionals: Jason Stoner, Director of Experience Strategy at Metrostar Systems and Cory Lebson, Principal UX Designer & Owner of Lebsontech LLC.

Jason Stoner discussed the Agile Methodology and how budding UX designers can prepare to work in an agile environment when they go into industry.

Students also had the opportunity to learn from Cory Lebson as he discussed how to develop one's own personal brand as they enter the workforce. Students had the opportunity to get their questions answered from learning what current UX skills to focus on in today's economy in order to stand out to how to tell your story as a UX professional.

Lastly, students had the chance to do a Q and A session with researchers and designers working at Metrostar Systems to learn about their stories and gain tips on how to break into the industry themselves.

One takeaway is that UX is a field which brings people together from all different backgrounds. It's truly an inclusive community and that is what makes it a wonderful one to be a part of!

Stay Tuned for Part Two of HCIM the Remote Series.
