On April 4, 2019, the student-run organization UXTerps and the Human-Computer Interaction Masters (HCIM) program at the University of Maryland teamed up to organize the Terps Makeathon, the first User Experience Design hackathon at UMD! This student competition gathered students from various disciplines to apply their design skills to solve real-world problems Procter & Gamble (P&G) has been facing. P&G sponsored the event at the UMD Human-Computer Interaction Lab's annual symposium and provided two distinct design challenges, one focused on creating successful content in Coupa and another focused on an e-learning experience for P&G suppliers and vendors. A total of eight student teams were given three weeks to solve each design challenge, create a poster, and present a fully interactive prototype of their solution to the P&G judges at the HCIL Symposium. The Terps Makeathon was the first of its kind and was also supported by the HCIL and the HCIM program.
UXTerps is the first entirely student-run user experience (UX) organization at the University of Maryland, College Park. UXTerps are so excited to have had the opportunity to be sponsored by P&G for The Terps Makeathon and look forward to more collaboration in the future!
