Friday Forum is here! It's a chance for everyone to get to know our HCIM cohort. Catch up every week to learn about the diverse backgrounds that makeup UMD's HCIM.
What year are you in the HCIM program?
I am a second-year HCIM student.
Where are you originally from?
I am from Virginia.
What was your undergraduate degree in?
I have two degrees: one in Math and one in English.
Do you have any work experience? If so, what did you do and for how long?
Yes, I work at the Center for Advanced Study of Language (CASL) and have been there since senior year of college. I've been there 3.5 years now.
Why did you choose UMD's HCIM program?
I wanted to explore the bridge between humans and tech, and the potential of technology to influence humans. Eventually, I would like to get into Artificial Intelligence.
What classes are you taking this semester?
I am taking Capstone, Interactive Design, Ballet, and Italian.
What is your favorite class so far in the program?
I'm not sure. I think they all offer me freedom to explore while instilling discipline and timelines. In all my classes, I've learned so much.
What is one thing you wish you knew before coming to UMD?
Before starting the HCIM program, I wish I knew more about design. Although HCI does not rely solely on design, it does help! Lots of websites and tech are designed to cater toward a certain group. The advantage of knowing how to use design tools is that you can have the power to change the scene :)
After school, what is your dream job?
Probably design dresses but with a social and tech tangent.
Do you have any hidden talents?
What was the last TV show you watched?
Does Hulu count? I don't have a TV! I watched Bob's Burgers. I <3 Louise.
